SNCF RAILTRANS Bulk Carrier T1 - 555 9 068-0

This private waggon series from the Railtrans Company with the identification marking T1 (Railtrans nomenclature), otherwise Fbs, comes in the Railtrans green livery.

Overall length between buffers: 14m, wheelbase: 8.5m, Load capacity: 103mē.

The vehicle is designed for the transport of wood pulp (wood chips and sawdust) but serves also for transport of waste paper, rags and rubbish.

The waggons are fitted with Knorr type airbrakes, and many with a 5-spoked wheel handbrake. The waggons have round or rectangular buffers and some have a heavy handrail over the ladders at each end while many lack a handrail. The outside access ladder is situated at the end of the waggon. Two inspection ports are situated at diagonally opposite corners. The outer chassis is slightly tapered to the buffer backplate. The standard capacity has been increased by about 10mē by the addition of extra space below the chassis between the bogies. The front walls are equipped with hinged doors enabling the waggon to be emptied over the buffers. The inner surfaces of the walls are smooth lined so that the load can pass out without hindrance.

Many high capacity waggons of Railtrans company were built in France on the chassis of old SNCF waggons of different types and let out and registered to other railway undertakings.

The Railtrans company's private waggons are used in large numbers throughout Europe especially in block trains to transport wood chips, sawdust, rags and waste paper between the large sawmills, waste heaps and paper mills.

In Austria these waggons in their striking liveries work between, for example, a sawmill in Solenau and a paper mill to the north of Graz on the Sudbahnstrecke as they do between Ybbs/Donau and Waldenhausen and Frantscach-St. Gertraud.

After long operation the original white lettering turns to a rusty orange from the clinging brake dust.
