SNCF/VTG "RAILTRANS" Twin Bulk Carrier Wagon 685 5 013-8

These wagons travel systematically between sawmills and factories throughout Europe.

This wagon has a load capacity of 182 cubic metres. The wagon is loaded from above (opening 12.37 metres x 2 metres) and may be covered by a net or a lid. Unloading is effected by large side flaps patented by Railtrans which may be opened from above or below. The load is normally pushed out and falls into a bunker. By virtue of this ingenious construction handling times at the respective sites are kept to a minimum.

Many of the Fmrrs high capacity wagons are converted in France on the chassis frames of older wagon and are registered and licensed by, for example, BDZ when they are inscribed with Brackwede/Deutschland as their home station.

The length between buffers is 28.32m, the wheelbase 8.5m, tare 29 tonnes and laden weight 51 tonnes. The buffer height from the track is reduced to the minimum of 1070mm. The suspension can be adjusted so that the clearance does not fall below the minimum under maximum load.
The two wagon units are permanently attached and have a common braking system.
