41036     Diesel Locomotive BR199 DR (Narrow Gauge)      199 871-5

The decision was made in the 1980s to convert the narrow gauge lines in the Harz region to diesel power.

To keep costs down, it was decided to equip standard gauge BR110 locomotives with new bogies. In 1988

and 1989, the two prototypes 199 863 and 199 871 were delivered, these proved themselves in operation

but were unpopular with railway enthusiasts.

Only ten of the originally planned 30 locos were converted. These became HSB in 1992.
